Committee forwards unanimous approvals on sustainable fleet, EV infrastructure, e-bike program, and traffic materials to City Council consent agenda
The Oakland City Council Public Works and Transportation Committee met December 9, 2025 (11:32 AM–12:55 PM) with Chair Zac Unger and members Ken Houston, Charlene Wang, and Noel Gallo present (4-0 votes). The committee approved draft minutes, accepted the schedule of outstanding items, and unanimously approved staff recommendations on eight agenda items to be forwarded to the December 16, 2025 City Council consent agenda. Major actions included updating the Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Policy to align with SB 1383 and the City's 2030 Equitable Climate Action Plan; accepting multiple grants and appropriating funds for a sustainable fleet transition (including EPA funding of $1,364,154 and an Alameda County Transportation Commission Clean Air grant of $104,000) and matching appropriations; authorizing purchases of electric vehicles, sweepers, EV chargers and related equipment; awarding a traffic materials contract to Safeway Sign, Inc. (not to exceed $2,500,000); approving an amendment concerning waivers for Pedestrian Right-Of-Way (PROW) construction requirements; accepting a CALSTART e-bike grant (up to $800,000) and extending the Bikehub contract; and accepting BayREN technical assistance and $100,000 for municipal building decarbonization.
