EHS Standing Committee (Jan 8, 2026): Forwards two ordinances to Council; continues Boys & Girls Club contract; reviews youth development and RPS updates

The Education and Human Services Standing Committee met January 8, 2026. The committee forwarded ORD.2025-275 (transfer and creation of Safer Communities special funds totaling $1,100,000 for Gun Violence Prevention and Intervention) and ORD.2025-277 (regional cooperative agreement to support a recovery academy funded by the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority) to the January 12, 2026 Council meeting with recommendations to approve. ORD.2025-276 (Outside Agency Contract with Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond for expanded life skills programming at Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School) was continued to the February 12, 2026 EHS meeting. The agenda also included a Positive Youth Development Fund update, Richmond Public Schools updates, a DCAO human services report, boards & commissions vacancy report, and staff materials.
