Planning Commission recommends ordinance change to public hearing notices; discusses role expansion
The Town of Erie Planning Commission met on September 3, 2025 at 6:29 p.m. in Council Chambers. A quorum was present (Vice Chair Braudes absent, excused). The Commission approved the agenda and the August 20, 2025 meeting minutes. Public comment was received from resident Tarun Gangwani expressing safety, traffic, land-use and health concerns about a proposed commercial development at Hwy 7 and Erie Parkway and asking for healthier business incentives. The Commission unanimously approved Agenda Item 25-436 recommending that Town Council adopt an ordinance amending Title 10 (public hearing notice requirements). Commissioners held an extended discussion (Item 25-482) on Planning Commission roles and responsibilities, including possible role expansion, liaison functions, Master Plan reviews, code/UDC updates, and Rules of Procedure. Staff reported on the Old Town Social Capital Exercise outreach events, anticipated Municipal Code changes to align with the Charter, an appointment correction for Commissioner Braudes, and administrative process improvements.
