Historic Preservation Commission pauses action on multiple Columbia College-owned demolition permits; approves support for Benton-Stephens Phase III survey

The Commission met March 3, 2026 (6 present, 1 absent). Members approved the agenda and February minutes, released the demolition permit for 409 N. Eighth Street, closed review of 211 Alexander Avenue, and unanimously took no action on the other Eighth Street demolition applications to allow outreach to Columbia College and request an updated campus master plan. Staff reported on preservation plan work and a vendor withdrawal on the FY2024 CLG Benton-Stephens Phase I survey; the Commission approved a resolution supporting the FY2026 CLG Benton-Stephens Phase III survey. Event planning and follow-up on WPA murals were also discussed. Next meeting: April 7, 2026.
