City Council approves shelter grant, multiple utility and infrastructure contracts, appoints advisory members; discusses fire chief hiring and other public comments
At the April 14, 2026 City Council meeting Mayor Laesch presented proclamations and heard a sustainability board update. Council approved mayoral appointments to the Sustainable Aurora Advisory Board and the Deferred Compensation Administration Committee. The Council accepted a $2,000,000 DCEO grant and participation agreement with Mutual Ground for family shelter renovations, approved multiple purchasing and construction contracts (including sanitary sewer CIPP lining, water main replacement and related agreements, manhole rehabilitation, lighting purchases, fleet vehicle purchases, 311 call center furnishings, and an airport layout study), and authorized completion of a settlement in Wagner v. City of Aurora. Minutes and bills were approved. The meeting included public comment on vendors near schools, exposed electrical lines, a proposed recall mechanism, Data Center noise, and the hiring/residency requirement for the Fire Chief. The Council met in closed session to discuss pending litigation.
