City Utilities Committee reviews Department of Watershed Management updates; forwards and holds multiple ordinances (Jan 27, 2026)
The City Utilities Committee met on January 27, 2026. The agenda and prior minutes were adopted unanimously. Committee members heard quarterly updates from the Department of Watershed Management (DWM) presented by Commissioner Greg Eyerly. The Chair asked members to be prepared to adopt 2026 committee goals and objectives at the February 10 meeting. One public speaker (Mary Margavet Murphy, Atlanta Botanical Garden) spoke. Ordinances authorizing budget amendments and project funding were considered: two first-reading ordinances (26-O-1102 — $8,000,000 transfer to a Program Management Services Team project; 26-O-1103 — $10,000 award to the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and Resilience) were sounded and forwarded to full council for referral; a second-reading ordinance (26-O-1010 — $1,166,700 for R.M. Clayton Levee Improvements, Bolton Road Segment Phase II) was held in committee for additional information; another second-reading ordinance (26-O-1011 — first amendment to storm sewer improvement contracts adding up to $7,500,000) received a favorable recommendation (6–0, one abstention) and will proceed to full council; an ordinance authorizing an access easement to the Atlanta Botanical Garden (26-O-1073) received a favorable unanimous recommendation. The meeting adjourned at 11:39 AM.
